The sole features a moveable shoe which allows to set the mouth opening on the plane to suit the type of cut being taken. Solid bronze cap, brass spin wheel with brass fittings, brass adjuster nut and cap screw. The blade is made from T10 carbon steel. The 6-3/8" long body is 1-3/4" wide and is comfortable in the hand, the adjustable mouth provides control for making whatever shavings you need. There is a lot of speculation as to why Stanley made a smaller equivelent of their bench planes, be it salesmen's samples or promotional freebies, but the fact remains that it is still a handy tool. The plane can be used as a palm tool or two handed like a normal bench plane. A multi purpose plane. The plane combines the features of a shoulder rebate, chisel plane and adjustable mouth bull-nose plane. As a shoulder plane, the front extension piece is fitted as a chisel plane all nose pieces are removed; and as a bull-nose plane, the thinner nose piece is fitted in conjunction with one or both of the precision machined steel shims (1/32" and 1/64") - or for very fine work, without either shim. The body is machined from a quality grey iron casting and precision ground on the sole and sides. The lever arm is also of grey iron. The cutting iron fits smoothly onto the machined pads in the body and can be adjusted by means of the screw. Bright Ground finish.
